There are many questions that arise when you’re considering a loft conversion. Here we’ve listed some of the most frequently asked questions and hopefully this will provide you with all the information that you need. If you need more information, clarification or just want to talk something through, please do give us a call on 0800 270 7647 or Contact Us
Is My Loft Suitable For Conversion?
The accepted minimum height for a loft conversion is 2.3 metres or 7ft 6in measured from top of ceiling joist to underside of ridge. Our surveyor can check this if you are unsure.
Do we need Building Regulation approval?
Yes; most building works, including loft conversions are governed by Building Regulations. This gives you the comfort that the works are inspected and approved at key stages of the build to ensure they are being carried out in compliance with current Building Regulations. Your dedicated Project Manager from Red River oversees all regulatory requirements.
What planning permission do I need?
The changes to planning laws in 2008 means that most loft conversions do not require planning permission and can be carried out under permitted development. You will still need plans drawn which need to be submitted to the local authority Building Control for approval, which your Red River Project Manager will arrange for you.
What happens next?
Once you have approved the drawings and any pre start consents are obtained we will agree your start date. We will introduce you to your dedicated Project Manager who will be your main point of contact liaising with you throughout the build ensuring smooth running, cleanliness and approval at each stage.
Where will the stairs go?
We can usually fit the stairs above the existing staircase without the need to alter existing rooms. In some cases however there is a need to make small alterations at 1st floor level, our Surveyor will advise on this during his visit.
How much disruption will there be during the conversion?
The Red River Loft Team understand that most of our clients usually live in the property whilst the conversion takes place. For most of the works, access is through the roof via scaffolding. We do of course need to access the main house for installation of the staircase and connection to electrical and plumbing services. Whenever we do need access we ensure that we clean up at the end of each working day so that all disruption, noise and mess is kept to an absolute minimum.
Are your prices competitive?
Yes. We are not the cheapest or the most expensive – we endeavour to provide a balance between price and quality of service to ensure customer satisfaction.
Do you provide finance?
Not directly however we will endeavour to give you the best advice on how to finance your project and introduce you to our financial advisers who are on hand to get you details depending on your personal circumstances.
Will a loft conversion be a good investment?
A Loft Conversion is without doubt one of the best investments you can make to your property. It is not uncommon to see an increase in value of around 20% .  To maximise the âadded valueâ think carefully about what you want from your loft conversion and make the best use of all available space. The design team at Red River Loft Converters are on hand to give advice as taking the time to get your design right is crucial to the success of the project both in âadding valueâ and achieving a layout that works well for you.
